The Member of Parliament for Kwesiminstim constituency and Deputy Minister for Works and Housing has called for an end to the cyclical change of government every eight years, arguing that this pattern disrupts policy continuity and stifles national development.
He emphasized that after every eight-year term, a new administration tends to replace the previous government’s policies with their own manifesto-driven agenda, which hinders long-term progress.
“We should avoid change of government every 8 years. It is one of the biggest problems we are facing in this country. The NPP has its policy perspective, the objectives behind the policy are what we have started, if another government comes into power, it will not continue with the policies of the previous government.
“Citing the NPP’s achievements, the individual highlighted that nearly 98% of the commitments outlined in the party’s 2016 manifesto have been fulfilled. The full impact of the NPP’s policies could only be realized if the party is given a third consecutive term in office. Sustainable development and continuity have been key to the success of developed nations,” he said.
Speaking on a one-on-one interview at Accra-based Radio, Top Radio, Dr. Hamid Armah who is also the Chairman for the Education Committee of 2024 NPP Manifesto noted that the government often need time beyond the typical four-year cycle to see tangible results.
“What can you do in just four years? he governments often spend their first two years laying the groundwork, with the third year focused on election preparation.”
He urged Ghanaians to embrace continuity, allowing the NPP to maintain power for 12 years and deliver sustainable growth for the nation.
As the country looks ahead, the appeal is for voters to consider the long-term benefits of policy continuity and the promise of national progress through uninterrupted governance.
