Nana Yaa Jantuah, General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has resigned as a result of a petition submitted before the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday, December 5.
Members of the CPP across the country petitioned the NEC to force all national executives of the Nkrumahist party to quit willingly or be dismissed for claimed inefficiency.
Following that, a vote of no confidence was voted by all of its national executives, resulting in a serious misunderstanding at the meeting.
Nana Yaa Jantuah spoke to the media immediately after the meeting, indicating that she will reveal her next course of action later.
“I’ve left. I believe I have completed my duties. I’m no longer the CPP’s General Secretary. In due order, I shall inform everyone of my political affiliation. For the time being, it’s all about family and friends. I’ll be spending time with my family and friends.
“For the time being, I’m going to concentrate on my business.” They believe that others can do it better. Things are not kept in political parties. I’ve done what I needed to accomplish over the last three years, and everyone has witnessed it. If my people say they don’t want me, I can’t impose myself on them.”
Nana Yaa Jantuah was elected General Secretary of the CPP in August 2020.
To take over from the current executives, a thirteen-person temporary body was formed, consisting of regional chairmen, a member of the council of elders, regional secretaries, regional organisers, and some women and youth representatives.
