The executive director of the National Cathedral project, Paul Opoku-Mensah, has stated that Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev Eastwood Anaba’s departure from the board is based on “false” grounds.
In January 2023, the two clergymen demanded that the cathedral project be suspended immediately and audited.
In a letter to President Akufo-Addo, they stated that they had waited for news on the audit findings but had received none, prompting them to quit.
“To the best of our knowledge, despite our prayers, best hopes, and wishes, a necessary audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this critical project has not been implemented.”
“Since January 2023, we awaited news, to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit. We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the board of trustees of the National Cathedral,” the letter stated.
In response to the allegations, Opoku-Mensah stated that a Deloitte audit was proceeding and that the claim made by the two respected priests that nothing had been done to hire an independent audit company to audit the Cathedral’s activities could not be true.
