The National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, Mrs Gertrude Quashigah, has passed on.
She is said to have died on November 12, 2023.
Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, who held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Ambar Quality Foods Limited and was born on February 1, 1960, in Dzelukope, Keta, in the Volta Region, was not only a prominent figure in the field of hospitality but also made significant contributions to the Ghanaian food industry.
She was the late Major Courage E. K Quashigah’s (Rtd) wife, a former Minister in the Kufuor government.
She graduated from Keta Secondary Senior High School and went on to enhance her education in her subject of interest.
Mrs. Quashigah led the Ghana School Feeding Programme, which made significant gains in ensuring that students across the country had access to nutritional meals.
The programme aims to increase school enrolment, attendance, and retention while also increasing children’s general health and well-being.
Gertrude Quashigah was dismissed from her role as National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme in May 2021.
A letter from the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection at the time requested that she give over any official papers or property in her possession to the ministry’s Chief Director.
In the letter dated May 18, 2021, no explanation was stated for her departure.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo later overturned his decision.
