Shalimar Abbiusi, a spokesperson for the New Force political organisation, has been deported to her home in Belgium, prompting charges of unjust treatment and human rights breaches.
She was deported after the state dismissed the accusation of acquiring a student visa with false declaration and then rearrested her on Tuesday.
Her attorneys had accused the Ghana Immigration Service of attempting to deport her as a cause for the indictment being dropped. However, the service had stated that a decision on her destiny had still to be made.
However, in an interview with the media, Ms Abbiusi’s main attorney, Francis Xavier Sosu, who verified her deportation, branded the manner of her expulsion as an assault on her fundamental human rights.
“I gathered information that she was being escorted to board the Brussels Airline to Belgium sometime last night. However, this is terrible.
“Because she was not deported from Ghana, and the Minister issued no deportation order, only an Executive Instrument.” So keeping her, denying her access to attorneys and even her family, and accompanying her with uniformed personnel constituted a breach. She might transfer from Ghana to Togo after you cancel the person’s visa and tell her to leave our jurisdiction within 24 hours. She has the freedom to roam wherever she wants.”
