A Tamale circuit court has sentenced 41-year-old Nigerian resident, Favour Blessing to five years in prison for human trafficking and forced prostitution.
The accused prayed to the court for forgiveness before his Lordship, Alexander Oworae, pronounced the sentence.
The Judge, however, turned down her plea, stating that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who engage in human trafficking.
He then jailed her for five years.
According to the police investigation, the suspect was apprehended on Sunday, December 4, 2022, when she chased one of her victims who resisted her orders into Tamale’s streets.
During the chase, the victim, who is also a Nigerian national, sought refuge from a good Samaritan who happened to be a police officer.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was trafficking unsuspecting victims from Nigeria to Ghana under the guise of providing them with jobs.
She travels between the Northern and Savannah regions, where she forces her victims into prostitution.
