Locals in Nkwanta, Oti Region, lynched Sherrif Nurudeen, 27, on Friday, July 15, 2022, for allegedly stealing, according to police.
The police have transported his remains from the crime scene to the morgue for preservation.
Speaking to the media on Friday, the crime officer, Lawrence Wiafi noted that investigations into the incident have already begun.
“Even though he was a suspected thief, the residents should not have taken the law into their own hands by beating him to death because it is against human rights,” the police investigator said.
Wiafi urged the public not to take the law into their own hands when they suspect someone of committing a crime.
He stated that the public should have faith in the police and report such incidents to the security services.
