The assistant headmaster of Nkwatia Presby Senior High School has been fired for allegedly abusing a female student.
It comes after pictures and videos of the student’s severely injured face went viral on social media, causing considerable outrage.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) condemned the attack on the student in a statement made on Monday (28 August), noting that the student is receiving medical attention and counselling.
“The attention of management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has been drawn to disturbing picture of a student of Nkwatia Presby SHS assaulted by the assistant headmaster (academics) at the school.
“The GES unequivocally condemns the actions of the assistant headmaster who is supposed to ensure that students and teachers operate in a safe school environment. The Eastern regional director of education is liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter,” the statement said.
“Meanwhile, the assistant headmaster has been relieved of his duties and the student is receiving medical care and counselling,” the GES statement said.
