The Deputy Western Regional minister, Eugenia Gifty Kusi has disclosed that any market in the region, which fails to comply with the safety protocols henceforth would be closed down.
She revealed that this decision was taken considering how traders in markets within the region have flouted the social distancing protocol and, the use of nose masks was not being strictly adhered to.
“We have taken the decision to close desown markets where traders and market users have refused to comply with the safety protocols as outlined by health authorities. We have heard and seen media reports of how traders in markets within the region have disregarded the protocols, which is hampering the efforts of health authorities to halt the spread of the virus. For instance, last week we closed down the Bogoso market for flouting the social distancing rules. From now on, any market that does not practice social distancing would be closed down”.
The deputy minister also commended the efforts of media outlets in the region for supporting health authorities in the area of public education.
” I would like to say to the media that we are all in this with you”, he added.
