The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has confirmed that the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, is eligible to vote in the party’s special delegates congress on August 26.
Alan Kyerematen’s campaign raised issues about the chief of staff’s qualification under the category of National Executive Committee in the delegates list.
However, at a press conference, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah stated that the Chief of Staff was eligible to vote due to her position as patron of the party’s National Executive Committee.
“Our coordinated efforts have been devoted to responding to different questions that came up throughout the process. Resolving problems with the voters registration received special attention. We gave the provisional voters register to candidates and urged them to thoroughly check it, find any errors, and report them in order to respect the highest norms of openness. The applicants then provided us with insightful criticism regarding any instances of omission, duplication, and associated issues.
“We are pleased to confirm that all such concerns have been diligently rectified.”
According to Mr. Yeboah, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare is a member of the National Executive Committee and, by virtue of her being the representative of the patrons at the NEC, this gives her the right to vote.
