Hundreds of supporters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, gathered at the party headquarters in Asylum Down as the Vice President presented his presidential nomination forms.
Speaking at the Party Headquarters after the Vice President submitted his forms, Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson urged party delegates to support Dr Bawumia so that the party could continue some of its existing positive activities.
Former Vice Chairman Fred Oware and former National Organiser Sammy Awuku, among others, gathered the applications on Dr Bawumia’s behalf earlier this month.

Dr. Bawumia has held extensive conversations in recent months about his desire to run for the NPP’s flagbearer role.
He met with the Parliamentary Majority Caucus, the Party’s Council of Elders, and several traditional and religious leaders to announce his ambition to lead the NPP after President Akufo-Addo’s mandate ends in 2025.
On May 26, 2023, the NPP leadership started nominations for the Presidential Primaries, which will end on June 24, 2023.
Currently, 10 presidential hopefuls have taken up nomination forms to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position, including Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.
The NPP intends to conduct a Special Delegates Congress to choose the top five presidential candidates on August 26, 2023.
These top five candidates will then compete for the party’s flagbearer position on December 4, 2023, and will thereafter lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
