Hon Alan Kyerematen’s political fortunes improved dramatically on day two of the current NPP Regional Delegates Congress, with more regions approving candidates from the Trade and Industry Minister’s party.
The seasoned politician won the Upper West Region, Volta Region, and Greater Accra, in addition to the surprise triumph in Nana Addo’s birthplace of Eastern Region.
The massive win swung the pendulum further away from the grip of his rival, HE Dr Mahamud Bawumia ahead of the much anticipated Presidential Primaries.
Having already captured Bono East, Western North, Ahafo, Savannah and Upper East Region, it appears the gap between Alan Kyerematen and Dr Mahamud Bawumia shows no sign of closure.
In the Ashanti Region, the victory for Chairman Antwi Bosiako, known as Chairman Wuntumi, was not enough to prevent pro Alan candidates from emerging victors in a number of positions.
The Trade and Industry Minister is expected to square off against Ghana’s Vice President, HE Dr Mahamud Bawumia in the race to pick the next flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party.
All elected regional executives will join the constituency, polling station executives and coordinators to vote for the next flag bearer of the party alongside government appointees and some party elders.
The early indicators are however pointing at landslide victory for the Cash man whose administrative nous appeared to have enticed the delegates.
