The Regional Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region are set to take place later today, Sunday, May 29, 2022.
This will be the final area to hold elections, leaving the Central region as the only one where elections have been halted indefinitely due to a court case.
The Bono Regional Elections will be held at Sunyani.
The incumbent Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, is keenly fighting today’s race.
Konlaabig Rasheed, the current Regional Organiser, has challenged him.
Furthermore, the incumbent Regional Secretary, Mr Kofi Boateng, is being challenged by two others, Franklin Osei-Antwi and Ebenezer Asare-Baffuor.
Other incumbents are running for re-election, but are being challenged by newcomers.
So far, 14 regions have had elections.
The first wave of elections was held in the Ahafo, Bono-East, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Western North areas.
On Saturday, the elections for Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti, Volta, Upper West, and Western were conducted.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, defeated his closest rival, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), to win re-election as the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.
He kept his seat for the third time, having previously held it in 2014 and 2018.
Divine Otoo Agorhom, the incumbent Regional Chairman of the Greater Accra Region, was re-elected.
He escaped defeat by a hair’s breadth, winning by only six votes. He received 332 votes, while his opponent received 326.
While some incumbents held their posts, others were defeated in their re-election efforts, allowing new entrants to take control at the regional level.
The NPP’s National Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, believes the party has the right persons with the appropriate sense of purpose to win the 2024 general elections.
As a result, he has called for party unity in order to break the eight.
We have a big job ahead of us, but we’ll accomplish it because we know what it takes to win an election.” We have the personnel and people to do the task. We have a duty of purpose and the development plan that President Nana Addo and his government are bequeathing to the nation in terms of social infrastructure, among other things.
So, as we approach 2024, I am optimistic that the NPP will propel Ghana ahead.
