Parliament has approved President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of Dr. Prince Hamidu Armah as Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, part of his first ministerial reshuffle since 2017. Alongside Dr. Armah, key appointments include Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye as Minister of Health, Lydia Seyram Alhassan as Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, and Dakoa Newman as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. Other deputy ministerial nominees were also approved.
The approval process saw the Minority in Parliament staging a walkout in protest, criticizing the government’s handling of the current economic and power crises.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson condemned the appointments, arguing that they are unwarranted during economic hardships and persistent power outages, also known as “dumsor.”
He stated that increasing the number of ministers contradicts the government’s calls for austerity.
