Nine illegal miners who invaded the Samang Dwaso section of the Atewa Forest Reserve to engage in galamsey are currently being held by police at the Kibi Divisional Police Command.
During field surveillance operations, a 13-member forestry guard by chance came across these illegal miners who had set up camp inside the forest reserve.
The team that surrounded them at that point saw that the nine illegal miners had dug several trenches and destroyed more than 0.5 hectares of the forest reserve.
The suspects will appear in court on Wednesday, according to Emmanuel Antwi, the Kibi District Forestry Manager, who confirmed the arrest.
