The prompt intervention of the police in the Ashanti region stopped some residents and Suame magazine employees from attacking Parliament’s Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
This came after he attempted to address residents in the area following the resumption of work on the Suame-Maakro road.
Some enraged residents hurled various objects at him and hooted at him.
Residents staged a protest last week, urging authorities to ensure that work on the stretch resumes.
After escaping the enraged youth, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, addressed the media, assuring that efforts are being made to complete road work as soon as possible.
He also stated that he understood his constituents’ outrage. “If they are really angry that it has been a while since the scraping of the surface and the dust is killing them, certainly when they see any government official, they will vent their spleen on the person. So I am not worried,” Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said.
After the address, the MP was led away in a police vehicle.
