Benjamin Kesse, the President’s nominee as the Municipal Chief Executive for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, failed to secure the required votes for the confirmation of his appointment. Out of a total number of fourty-two assembly members who were presented and voted, twenty -two voted yes for the nominee, while twenty voted no for the nominee.
The nominee needed to have secured at least two-thirds of members voting yes, and that meant he should have secured 28 yes votes to get the nod from the assembly members to become the Municipal Chief Executive.
It can be recalled that before his nomination as the Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem to replace Gilbert Asmah, Bejamin Kesse contested for the Assembly’s Presiding Member position three consecutive times and lost.
In a related development, the Cynaide Assembly Member, Hon Emmanuel Gado has been elected as the Presiding Member for Tarkwa Nsuaem. Out of 42 votes, he polled 39.
Prior to Hon Gado’s election as PM, the assembly member of Essaman Electoral area, Hon Emmanuel Arthur was put up for the Presiding Member position, but lost after failing to get the required two-thirds vote. He had 24 yes votes, 15 no votes, with three rejected votes.
The elected presiding member, Hon Emmanuel Gado expressed his appreciation to members of the assembly for giving him the nod.
The election was supervised by the electoral commission.
