The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA), following discussions with the government, has decided to postpone its plan to hold a demonstration.
Members of the group staged a protest against their working circumstances a few weeks ago.
The government and GRNMA reached an agreement on a number of issues, However, members of the group, stated in a statement that they had suspended the protest after the government promised to address their unpaid benefits following a meeting between its leadership and the Ministry of Health on May 18, 2023.
including the financial clearance for the current rotation group of nurses and midwives, who are anticipated to be discharged by the end of this month.
“We are by this notice entreating all our cherished members to remain calm as leadership takes the necessary steps in getting our allowances paid fully. Also, we shall hold on to the nationwide massive demonstration till the end of this month. We appreciate the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association for the timely interventions.”
“The following was agreed upon at the end of the meeting: Financial clearance for the current rotation group of Nurses and Midwives is expected to be released hopefully by the end of this month. There would be no need for biometric registration. The only requirement for the generation of the staff ID and payment of your due allowances is your Ghana card details,” GRNMA noted in its statement.
Last Monday, the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association urged the government to give its members’ stipend payments top priority.
According to the group, its members are going through terrible suffering as a result of the government’s inability to pay the allowances.
One of the group’s members, Paul Dodzi, allegedly passed away as a result of the suffering.
The deceased Rotational Nurse committed suicide in Asankragua in the Western Region as a result of hardship.
