The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2022 is set to take place on 20-25 June 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda.
The official opening of CHOGM takes place on Friday, June 24, and is followed by the main high-level meetings of Heads from Friday 24 to Saturday, June 25, 2022. They are proceeded by four Forums, ministerial meetings, side events, and other activities.
The week-long summit, themed “Delivering a Common Future,” is expected to draw over 5,000 participants from government, business, and civil society.
Foreign ministers from the 54 Commonwealth countries will meet on Thursday, June 23, followed by the heads of government summit two days later.
This year’s meeting will focus on climate change, economic development, and opportunities for young people, with 60 percent of the Commonwealth population under the age of 30.
The CHOGM is normally held every two years but was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.
The Commonwealth is a group of countries that were formerly governed by Britain – but others, such as Rwanda and Mozambique, have opted to join.
CHOGM is hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. Since 1971, a total of 24 meetings have been held, with the most recent being in the UK in 2018.
