The Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency, Andrews Egypa Mercer over the weekend, cut the sod for the construction of six-unit classroom block at Guanda Zongo, a suburb within the constituency. The project is being funded by the Zongo Development Fund (DZF), and it is expected to be completed within a six month period.
The MP in breaking ground for the commencement of the project said the project is in fulfilment of a need by the community, as captured under President Nana Addo’s initiative of ensuring an even spread of infrastructure and development in Zongo communities.
Mr. Mercer stated that the project will enhance education in and around the community.
“I expect that it will enhance teaching and learning in the Zongo community because obviously, that is the purpose of the fund. We all know the situation in some of our Zongos. But for Sekondi because of our peculiar location,we tend to be a little privileged. But there are still problems in here that need to be attended to” noted.
The project is to commence next week, and it is to be executed by AKOFIS Construction Limited.
A representative of AKOFIS Construction Limited at the ceremony, Ibrahim Mohammed said that the project comprised of an office space and a common room for staff, washrooms plus the 6 classroom unit. He reiterated the need for the community to support the project.
