The Eastern Regional Chapter of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has served a notice of a possible shutdown of the schools should government fail to deliver the supplies by the end of the week.
“There have been food shortages for the past two years and the supply of food has not been in line with the policy directives”
According to the notice, some suppliers of the food items for some time have been supplying underweight items to the schools.
“An example is 100kg of maize has been reduced to 50kg or 60kg.”
“Funds meant for perishables in Senior High Schools are in arrears since 2021. Only two lodgements have been made in 2022 as regards perishables,” the notice added.
The council has resolved that if by Friday, July 15, 2022, the food challenges are not addressed, Heads of senior high schools in the Eastern region will recommend to Ghana Education Service management to close down all SHS.
As a result of these setbacks, some parents have called for the schools to be closed.
