President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called the death of former Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto a huge blow to the government.
The former Old Tafo MP died on Monday, March 20, following a brief illness.
Speaking at a meeting with the family of the late MP at the Jubilee House, Akufo-Addo said the government and the NPP will miss the former MP dearly.
“I have known Akoto Osei for a very long time, and we’ve been friends for a long time. In the 80s, he used to visit me at my house in Silver Springs in Washington, so I am actually part of his family. He has helped our party in many diverse ways, the Kufuor government and my government, so this death is really painful for all of us.”
Dr. Akoto Osei served as a Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency for 16 years and Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-first Addo’s term, from 2017 to 2021.
Parliament on Tuesday, March 21, eulogised the late MP, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin assured his family of the House’s solidarity during their time of grief.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin paid a tribute to the late MP before the commencement of proceedings on March 21.
“We will play our roles and do all we can to assuage the pain of such a shock not only to the family but to the whole nation. I was sad when I heard about his death. I think it’s proper we observe a minute of silence for his soul. May his soul and all the departed souls rest in perfect peace,” he said.
