The National Communications Authority (NCA) has stated that Elon Musk’s Starlink is currently operating illegally in Ghana.
The NCA claims that it has neither cleared any of Starlink’s equipment nor granted a license for Starlink, the SpaceX satellite internet service, to operate in Ghana.
Even in remote locations, the technology is intended to provide high-speed internet access.
The NCA stated in a statement released on Thursday (December 7) that any organisation offering Starlink services or selling Starlink equipment in Ghana is therefore directly in breach of the Electronic Communications Act 2008.
As a result, it is cautioning Ghanaians not to buy any goods or services from Starlink. According to its website, the company hopes to start operations in Ghana by the third quarter of 2024; however, availability is pending regulatory permission.
