A Tamale High Court 2, has sentenced Adamu Issah, a Tipper truck driver from Tamale to 40 years in prison. Adamu was convicted guilty of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
On May 24, 2022, the offender and his accomplice, one Alhassan, who is still at large, hijacked a Toyota Hilux pick-up in Gbanyamni, a Tamale suburb, which held stuff such as a laptop, mobile phones, money, and other items.
According to the facts, when the victim arrived home after work, Adamu Issah and his accomplice accosted him at gunpoint, got into the car, searched and took a mobile phone belonging to the complainant, and asked for access to the phone, after which they jumped back into the car and fled.
The victim subsequently filed a police report, which resulted in the arrest of the prisoner, who was on trial for a criminal act in a Tamale circuit court at the time.
During the trial, prosecutors searched the accused person’s house and discovered goods such as a pen drive, computers, and other objects that tied the prisoner to the crime.
Based on the evidence offered by the prosecutors, the court presided over by Justice Eric Ansah Ankomah convicted and sentenced the suspect to 40 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the felon is on trial for another robbery charge.
In 2016, the convict and his accomplice stole a Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number GM8523-14 from MTN, a telecommunications company in Tamale. He was later arrested in Togo and handed over to Ghana police, where he was later convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.
According to the information accessible to OilCity Radio the offender has been engaged in multiple car-snatching crimes in the northern area, and it is suspected that he works for an international criminal network.
Over four automobiles, including a V8 belonging to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chair Sofo Azoka, were stolen at gunpoint in Tamale between 2016 and 2022.
