The Tanzania Mainland Premier league is set to resume soon. The Tanzania Football Federation is putting in contingency plans to continue after 29 games played out of the possible 38 games to be played in the 2019/2020 league season.
The 20 team league was put on hold with the emergence rising cases of the global pandemic coronavirus.
In an exclusive interview sighted by www.thekwesimintsimobserver.com with Young Africans striker Bernard Morrison who previously plied his trade with the Elephants Obuasi Ashantigold SC, Bernard Morrison reiterated that the pandemic cases in Tanzania wasn’t that much with 509 confirmed cases, 21 deaths, and 183 recoveries.
With this, the Football Federation is willing to continue with the season rather than canceling it.
“The Tanzania Football Federation is willing to continue the 2019/2020 league season to be able to get teams to represent the country in the CAF competitions that is CAF champions league and the CAF confederations cup and are putting in measures to ensure the smooth return of football back in Tanzania’.
The last game in the Tanzania Mainland Premier league was the goalless drawn game between Tanzania Prisons and Mbao on 17th March 2020.
Simba FC’s bitter rivals of Young Africans is all and certain to win the league topping with 71 points with a game in hand.
Azam are second with 54 points also with a game in hand. Young Africans are third with 51 points having played two games less.
Singida United might be the only team that wouldn’t be willing to resume the season since they languish at the bottom of the league with 15 points having played all their 29 games so far and look certain to be relegated.
The Dar es Salaam based Ghanaian international and a Ghana Premier league winner Bernard Morrison seized the opportunity to advise Ghanaians to stay safe since we aren’t in normal times and Ghanaians should practice good personal hygiene so that the pandemic can be eradicated for the beautiful game of football to resume soon for us to enjoy.
“I will take this opportunity to tell Ghanaians to please stay safe because the coronavirus is real and the number of positive cases keeps on increasing in Ghana so please my fellow Ghanaians please stick by the directives issued by the Ghana Health Service, the President, and other stakeholders to help reduce or eradicate the pandemic eventually from the world.
The virus doesn’t travel humans travel with it so please stay home and wash your hands frequently with soap under running water so that in the end football will win over coronavirus and our beautiful game football will be back and in full string.”
