The President of the Western Region Health Workers Union, Mr. Jerry Mensah has indicated that the Western Regional Health Directorate has assured them of adequate personal protective equipment to protect all health workers in the region.
Last week, there were rife reports that health workers across various health facilities in the region were complaining about the unavailability of PPEs, a situation they believed could further expose them to COVID-19 infections. Some of the health workers, especially those at the Kwesimintsim Hospital threatened to laid down their tools if the neccessary PPEs were not provided for them.
However, Mr. Mensah has indicated that the Health Directorate reached out to his outfit regarding their concerns, and reiterated the region’s sufficiency when it came to the issue of PPEs in fight against COVID-19.
” I received indications from the Regional Health Director that the region has enough PPEs to be supplied to all healthcare facilities, but the challenge has had to do with healthcare facilities requesting from them through the formal requisition process. He revealed to me that there were enough PPEs received from government and other benevolent organizations stationed at the Medical stores. I am therefore putting out a circular informing our members of this development, and requesting of them through their respective administrative structures at their various facilities to write to the Medical stores for PPEs”, he said in an interview on Skyy Power FM.
