The cost of public transit will be reduced by 10%, starting today, May 17, 2023.
Operators of road transport ascribed the decline to regular, marginal drops in the cost of fuel.
Shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), inter-city (long distance), and haulage are all included in the price reduction.
The road transport operators announced the reduction in a statement, noting that they had “In line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares, the road transport operators have reduced public transport fares by 10 percent to accommodate for the reduction in the price of petroleum products observed over the period.”
Commercial transport operators were urged to abide by the new rates and post them at their loading ports.
“We further request all operators, commuters, and the general public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares”, the Road transport operators entreated.
Petroleum product prices fell marginally in the second pricing window of May 2023 because of a drop in the price of oil on the international market and the relative stability of the Ghana cedi.
