The University of Development Studies (UDS) has formed a committee to investigate the reason for the collapse of a six-story building under construction on the university’s Tamale campus.
The committee, which has yet to be formed, has one month to give its findings.
A storey building under construction on the city campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale fell on Saturday (6 May) during a thunderstorm.
According to university officials, no one was killed. The tragedy occurred at night when there were no personnel on the job.
The director of public affairs at UDS, Abdul Hayi Moomen said it was too early to pin the collapse on the use of low-cost materials.
“As we speak, a committee is about to be inaugurated, and that committee will be made up of key players in the building and construction industry,” he explained.
“They will be able to work independently,” he continued. “They will have a month to complete their report.” We shall be able to determine the reason for the collapse only when NADMO conducts a full investigation of the issue.”
