The health authorities in the Upper East region have recorded a confirmed case of Monkeypox disease from the Bolgatanga Municipality out of three cases investigated so far.
In a statement released, the confirmed case was noted on July, 22, at the Upper East Regional hospital with history of fever and skin rash.
“Unfortunately, the case died on the 26th of July 2022…Samples were taken on the 22nd July 2022 for confirmation at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) in Accra.”
The regional health directorate, added that a total of 13 contact to the confirmed case have been identified for contact follow-up and monitoring.
According to the directorate no additional cases have been confirmed as of July, 30, 2022.
As a result of the outbreak, measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the disease in the region.
Among these measures are; stepped up surveillance on Monkeypox disease at all health facilities and communities, intensified awareness creation and social mobilization on Monkeypox disease and sent outbreak alert to all districts and health facilities.
The health directorate urged the public to remain calm and ensure the following to protect themselves from the Monkeypox disease.
The Monkeypox disease is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal or material contaminated with the virus.
On Saturday, July 23, 2022 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Monkeypox disease a global Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
