The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper West regional secretary, Mr. Daniel Tanko has stated that the Regional Executive Committee will not take responsibility for any backlash which might occur during President Akufo Addo’s tour to the region.
Speaking in an interview on Oman Yi Mu Nsem with the host, Alhassan Bin Jibril Spelele on OilCity Radio in Kwesimintsim-Takoradi, Mr. Tanko said that the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has deliberately excluded them from the planning of the President’s visit.
“It is true that the Regional Executive Committee has given that indication in a press statement and all bothers on the behaviour of the Regional Minister towards party executives and in regards to the President’s visit to the region we felt that the regional minister has deliberately refused to consult or engage us to make any input as far as the visit of the President is concerned.
“…we have decided that we can’t be brass band followers because of our position in the party we thought the minister could have done a better job by engaging us and letting us know what is happening and going to happen upon the President’s arrival,” he said.
According to him, the regional executive committee organised a meeting however, the regional minister refused to attend.
“We took the opportunity to organise a Regional Executive Committee meeting, thinking that the minister will be in the meeting to give us further details about the President’s visit but he refused to come…and that was when we felt the minister is not talking us for anything,” he lamented.
Meanwhile, the Regional Minister has rejected the claims by the Upper West Regional Executive Committee.
This comes after the Regional Executive Committee threatened to boycott all activities of an impending visit of the President to the region, which is scheduled for Monday, 22 August 2022.
The committee, which includes all the regional executives and constituency chairmen of the NPP, converged at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to drum home their concerns.
The visit is to commission some completed government projects and inspect ongoing ones, as well as interact with chiefs and people of the region.
