The Western North Region Forestry Commission wants authorities to recruit more young people as forest guards and field personnel.
The Commission regrets that the bulk of its staff in charge of such activities have reached retirement age, rendering them unable to carry out their duty efficiently.
Likewise, recipients of the Forestry Commission’s Youth In Afforestation program have complained about not receiving their locked-up allowances.
Reverend Edward Opoku Antwi, Deputy Regional Manager for the Forestry Commission in the Western North Area, told the media that there is an urgent need for young people to man forest reserves.
“We still need more staff members especially the field staff because the technical officers are very old so we need some of the youth to do the fieldwork,” he said.
