A fuel tanker on Friday, October 6, 2023, ignited near Bogoso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region. The incident according to Francis Abeiku Yankah, the Director of NADMO occurred around 9:45 AM.
According to Yankah, the fire originated when the dashboard of the fuel tanker ignited following a collision with a speed ramp. The driver managed to escape from the vehicle unharmed.
He alerted residents in the nearby town, urging them to seek shelter in a neighbouring village.
The tanker, which was carrying fuel, was safely parked by the driver. Prior to the arrival of the fire department, residents contributed water to put out the fire.
After two hours or so, the fire was finally put out by the firefighters, but not before it had seriously damaged the tanker.
Despite the fact that no injuries were reported, the fire significantly disrupted local traffic.
For several hours, the road was closed while the firefighters battled the blaze.
