The chiefs and residents of Nyankrom, Abuesi, and Shama in the Shama District in the Western region held a protest on July 3 to demand better roads.
The enraged protesters snarled traffic and inconvenienced workers by blocking the key thoroughfares to Nyankrom and Shama.
The demonstrators were frustrated by unfulfilled promises to repair the roads, despite the fact that the areas host important installations such as the Aboadze Thermal plant, Twyford KEDA Ceramics, and Marcopolo, a water-closet manufacturing company, all of which use heavy-duty trucks, which contribute to road damage.
The Queen mother of Nyakrom, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba, expressed alarm over the road’s terrible condition, noting examples of pregnant women having miscarriages as a result of the road’s bad condition.
“Pregnant women miscarry, why are you reducing our numbers, when it comes to elections, you want numbers, but you are reducing our numbers,” Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba stated.
