The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo has Thursday, June 23, 2022, been elected as the President of the African Parliamentarians Forum on Population and Development (AFPFPD).
The election took place at AFPFPD General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Kenya’s Senator Fredrick Outa became the Vice President-elect of the Forum.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing the Population Agenda.
He urged African countries to have a keen interest in the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and translate it to home countries for people to have meaningful lives.
Committee Members elected are; Dr. Zainab Gimba (Nigeria), Issa Mardo Djabir (Tchad), Ndongo M.E.P. Doumbe (Cameroon), Hassan Omar (Djibouti), Pemmy Majodina (South Africa), and Sylvia Mthethwa (Eswatini).
In the same meeting, the commission members-elect and the commission for Finance and Administration include Aboubakry Ngaide (Senegal), Aiya Isabel Meira Rita (Sao Tome), Muwuma Milton (Uganda), and Mathew Ngwate (Malawi).
Hon. Mariama Iro (Niger), Hon. Baikoua Timolesa (Central African Republic), Majur Babur Ajal (South Sudan), and Goodlucky Kwaramba are to serve on the Advocacy and Programming Commission.
The elected team is to carry out duties and policy direction of the forum for three years; (2022 to 2025).
