Ghanaian sprinter, Alex Amankwah has been disqualified for a lane violation in Heat 2 of the men’s 800m race at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
Amankwah, who ran in heat 2 of the 800m in the early hours of Thursday, July 21, appeared to be on track to qualify for the semi-finals after finishing as one of the athletes with the best losing times.
His excitement, however, was short-lived, as he was disqualified halfway through the race for a lane violation.
Before the review, the 25-year-old finished fourth in heat 2 with a time of 1:45.92.
Amankwah’s disqualification was upheld despite a legal challenge.
As a result of his disqualification, all of Ghana’s runners failed to advance to the semi-final stage of their respective events.
