Some market women at the Dome market have shown their displeasure with Sarah Adwoa Safo, the current member of parliament, by jeering and booing her, during a recent visit.
As the MP attempted to rebuild her relationship with her constituents after neglecting her parliamentary and constituency responsibilities for more than a year, she encountered harsh criticism.
Adwoa Safo is shown in a widely shared social media video attempting to approach market women by extending a kind handshake.
However, the sounds of others cheering, hooting, and expressing their disapproval overpower her attempts.
“Adwoa Safo, we want change!” yells a few of the market ladies. and “We don’t want you again, Adwoa Safo!”
Despite the jeers of disapproval, the former minister for gender and social protection carried on with her responsibilities, interacting with other traders who had raised their hands to greet her.
The prolonged absence of Adwoa Safo from parliament in 2022 caused a great deal of criticism. She departed the nation in November 2021, and despite being called to account for her absences, she did not show up before the Privileges Committee multiple times.
The Speaker of Parliament decided that the committee’s findings were not final and that the House as a whole needed to make a judgment before her seat could be declared vacant.
This sparked debate inside the parliamentary ranks.
Adwoa Safo recently apologised to the President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for causing issues during her absence from parliamentary duties.
