Ghana captain Andre Ayew has called for calm following Ghana’s 3-2 loss to Portugal in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finals.
The former Swansea City attacker, who equalized shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener, believes the players must improve their performance in subsequent games.
“Our game plan was working well, we were solid. The penalty appears to be a bit harsh. But I’m confident in what I saw today,” Ayew said in a post-match press conference.
“We always come out on top. We must remain calm, return home, unwind, and improve our performance. “We need to try to score more and concede less,” he added.
The loss drops Ghana to the bottom of Group H, following a goalless draw between Uruguay and South Korea earlier in the day.
The Black Stars will now focus on their match against South Korea on Monday before facing Uruguay at the Education City Stadium on December 2, 2022.
