Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that 20,000 young people in Ghana would be employed by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) under the recently introduced Business and Employment Assistance Programme (BEAP).
As part of the plan, YEA will subsidise new hires’ salaries who are hired by small and medium-sized firms.
Since then, the government has granted GHC60 million of the GHC120 million needed for the Youth Employment Agency to carry out the plan.
Speaking on Monday, December 11, during the program’s formal inauguration in Sunyani, Bono Region, Bawumia said the effort shows the government’s commitment to lowering unemployment.
“This programme is expected to benefit 10,000 medium-sized and small-scale businesses across multiple sectors over the course of the next year.”
“The implementation of this initiative will benefit 20,000 more Ghanaian youth, which is big. I’m excited about the relief this initiative will provide to the Ghanaian youth,” Bawumia remarked.
