The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that Ghana will join the Pacific Alliance as an observer country.
The Pacific Alliance is a regional integration initiative comprising of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.
It was officially established on April 28, 2011, with the goal of creating a deep integration zone through a participative and consensual process, gradually evolving towards unrestricted mobility of commodities, services, resources, and people.
The Pacific Alliance also intends to stimulate additional growth, development, and competitiveness in its members’ economy, with an emphasis on achieving higher well-being, overcoming socioeconomic disparity, and boosting social inclusion of its citizens.
It also aspires to provide a platform for political articulation, economic and commercial integration, and global projection, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific area.
During a meeting with visiting Colombia Vice President Francia Marquez Mina at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana stands to benefit a lot as an observer member of the Pacific Alliance.
“Our decision to become a member of the Pacific Alliance is very much in Ghana’s strategic interests, economic interests, and tourism interests. I believe that our alliance membership will bring us closer to Latin America as a whole,” he said.
