The vetting of National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate hopefuls for the Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra Region was disrupted by violence on Friday, October 13, 2023
Members of one of the candidates’ camps vandalised party property, including chairs and an air conditioner, and flung stones at the vetting committee, charging unfairness on their side.
The commotion erupted at the regional party headquarters in South La, when three men, Nii Okai Laryea, Kotey Ashie, and Michael Nii Yarboi Anang, were appearing before the committee in the hopes of succeeding the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, who is not seeking re-election.
Due to lingering concerns that the party needed to overcome, the Odododiodio Constituency was unable to participate in the vetting process that took place in February 2023
The purpose of today’s vetting was to determine the fate of the three aspirants for the party’s parliamentary primary on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
Meanwhile, one of the parliamentary candidate aspirants, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, has passed the vetting process.
Mr Anang is a former member of the New Patriotic Party who is running for Parliament in the Odododiodio Constituency on the NDC platform.
