Mr Kwame Owusu, campaign manager for Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, disclosed that their campaign team has resorted to offering money incentives to some delegates ahead of the November 4 presidential primaries.
Mr. Owusu revealed that the decision to induce delegates was made in response to the large sums of money distributed to delegates by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s party.
“He has given some inducements that are far too high, and people are very dissatisfied with things that we have been unable to pay, such as NABCO.”
“We recently owed so much money for school food and other expenses…People become suspicious when they witness the quantity of money moving that they claim they don’t have,” he said.
When asked explicitly if Mr Agyapong is inducing candidates, Mr Owusu replied, “Oh yes, Oh yes, we are only saying that if we are inducing, we should do it in such a way that people do not see it as buying them. That they are encouraged to do so.”
Mr Owusu also expressed reservations about Dr Bawumia’s preparedness to lead Ghana, citing his underwhelming performance over the last six years.
He claimed that many Members of Parliament and senior party officials support Dr. Bawumia’s candidature because they are afraid of the changes Mr. Agyapong would bring to the party if he is elected flagbearer.
