The NDC has rejected the Electoral Commission’s proposal to move the election schedule from December 7 to November 7.
The proposal was presented during the latest Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024.
The Electoral Commission not only proposed a change in the election date but also advised that election days be declared national holidays.
However, the NDC, through its Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah, has rejected the plan, stating the party’s vehement opposition to any changes to the existing election timeframe.
In response to the request, Dr. Omane Boamah reiterated the party’s commitment to keeping the present election date and encouraged the Electoral Commission to conduct a thorough evaluation of the electoral process.
He emphasised the necessity of open and appropriate conversation in addressing any problems or changes to the election system.
Despite the NDC’s consistent opposition to modifying the election date, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasised the party’s openness to participate in negotiations concerning voting on prayer or worship days.
He gave evidence to back his claim that voting on prayer or worship days had no negative impact on total election turnout.
