The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) executive council has stated that it has chosen to terminate Chris Hugton’s appointment as Black Stars coach, effective immediately.
Ghana conceded twice in stoppage time to lose a two-goal lead against Mozambique and almost surely leave the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars appeared to be sailing into the last 16 after two Jordan Ayew penalties, one in each half.
However, Geny Catamo equalised from the penalty spot after 91 minutes, before Reinildo Mandava’s header shattered Ghana’s hearts.
Mozambique finished last in Group B, while Ghana failed to advance to the next round.
The GFA published a statement on Tuesday (23 January) stating, “The Executive Council has also decided to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.”
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.”
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the GFA statement said.
