Vehicles larger than 3000 cubic centimetres, freight trucks, and articulated trucks must pay an annual fee of GH₵300.
Majid Amidu, Secretary of the Okada Riders Association told the media that the amount being paid for the tax is excessive, prompting their decision to petition the government.
“It’s too much.” People are hurting. You did not provide us work or do anything for us, and yet you expect us to pay GH75. We shall conduct another gathering and submit a petition to the government and the people of Ghana stating that enough is enough.
“If they do not lower the levy, we will go out and protest against this administration. The petition will be finished by Monday, and we will deliver it to the Minister,” he stated.
