A staff of the Effia- Nkwanta Hospital has tested positive for the novel corona virus, forcing the Management to close the Antenatal Care Unit, Child Welfare Clinic, and the Ear Nose and Throat Unit of the Hospital.
These units have so far been disinfected and other protocols triggered to contain the infection.
In a interview with Skyy Power FM, Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Joseph Tambil confirmed the news and stated that the infected person has been isolated, and other contacts who came into contact with the person have been asked to self-quarantine.
Dr. Tambil could not state with certainty when these units would be reopened for public use. He, however, wished that things would normalize in a week for an assessment to be done on the appropiateness of reopening the units or not.
The hospital has stated it would engage in mass testing for all contacts, as the infected staff is said to be operating a food joint at the hospital. which authorities of the Hospital believe the rate of infection could be dire.
