The President of the United States, Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on July, 19,2022, and is being quarantined at the White House.
According to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the 79-year-old, who is fully vaccinated and has twice received booster jabs, is experiencing “very mild symptoms” but will continue to perform all of his duties.
In a statement released by the presidency, the president is taking the antiviral medication Paxlovid.
Following White House protocol, the president will remain in isolation until he tests negative.
According to the official, he will participate in meetings via phone and Zoom.
White House COVID coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha said the president was tired, with a runny nose and dry cough.
He stated that Mr. Biden went to bed feeling fine but did not sleep well before testing positive on Thursday morning.
Ms. Jean-Pierre said the White House medical unit will notify all close contacts of the president throughout the day, including many members of Congress or members of the press who were with Mr. Biden during his visit to Massachusetts on Wednesday.
Paxlovid is an antiviral medication that prevents the COVID virus from multiplying in the body, thereby keeping virus levels low while the immune system fights the infection.
It is a series of two treatments or tablets. For five days, the patient takes one tablet of ritonavir and two tablets of nirmatrelvir daily.
