Traders in Dome, Kwabenya, and Taifa markets in Accra want the Ga East Municipal Assembly’s Chief Executive, Kaakie Mann fired.
Traders accused the MCE at a news conference of prioritizing personal interests over market development, which generates significant revenue for the assembly.
Angry traders chanted for the government to fire the Municipal Chief Executive because they were dissatisfied with her management style and administration.
At a joint press conference to express their displeasure, the traders accused the MCE of disrespect and maltreatment.
They claim that as a result, revenue has decreased in the assembly’s markets.
Women in the Ga East market demand the resignation of the Municipal Chief Executive.
“We have met here this morning to register our displeasure and grievance about the maltreatment, oppression, and disrespectful treatment netted on us by the Ga East MCE Honourable Kaakie Mann. Instead of concentrating on bringing progress and improvement to the welfare of the traders, she has rather taken a keen interest in creating division among the traders.
“She is not a unifier; she came to disturb the peace of the market. Kaakie must go! Kakie must go!” their statement read.
Some traders also shared what they refer to as maltreatment by the MCE.
“We don’t understand what she’s doing, and I don’t think that’s the work of an MCE,” say women in the Ga East market. She has her own responsibilities, as do the other queen mothers here. “We begged the government to fire her,” said a trader who is dissatisfied with the MCE’s administration.
Another trader, for her part, stated, “for no apparent reason, we were sitting there with a diabetic patient about to eat. Kaakie barged into the office without greeting or saying anything, ‘she’s the one… she’s the one!’ ‘handcuff her!'”
