Some soldiers are reportedly besieging Ashaiman, an Accra neighbourhood in the Greater Accra region, and brutalizing inhabitants.
This comes days after their colleague was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants in the area.
In some videos on social media, a young man is heard getting flogged while a neighbour quietly films from a window nearby.
In other visuals, some residents were forced to roll on the ground in the muddy puddles of the early morning rains.
“The soldiers are on the street and preventing everyone from stepping out. I should have left for work by now, but I can’t even step out,”
According to eyewitnesses who talked to OilCity Radio on Tuesday, some 20 highly armed troops attacked the area Tuesday morning and began assaulting people, stopping them from even leaving their houses.
“The military is on the street, keeping people from leaving. “I should have gone for work by now, but I can’t even get out the door,” an eyewitness said.
“We gathered that a military member, a young man, was murdered, I don’t know what caused his death, but several militaries have arrived in the area and nobody can walk out,” stated another eyewitness. They knock on your door, and when you open it, you will be slapped”.
“It’s really unsafe, and no one wants to go out…
“They are attacking anybody they see with their boots and hands. They simply assault young men, and if you are a lady dressed in a certain way, you become a suspect to them.”
The troops’ invasion comes after a 22-year-old soldier with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown attackers Saturday morning in Sunyani, Bono Region.
According to accounts, the soldier was on his way back from his girlfriend’s house in Taifa to his home in Zongo-Laka in Ashaiman when the sad occurrence occurred.
Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets the attackers made away with only his iPhone, according to Daily Guide Network.
Authorities are presently examining the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s death and are seeking public assistance.
