The evacuation of 82 Ghanaians from the Republic of Sudan has been successfully coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Sudan has been engaged in a deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in the last week, resulting in casualties and forcing many countries to evacuate their citizens.
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 23, Ghana’s Foreign Ministry stated that it was working with its missions in Cairo and Addis Ababa, as well as the Honorary Consul in Khartoum, to facilitate a safe exit for Ghanaian nations from conflict-torn Sudan.
A follow-up statement released on April 25 indicated that Ghanaian nationals in the troubled country had been taken to safety in Gedaref, Sudan, and will be transported tomorrow to the Ethiopian border town of Metema for onward repatriation.
