The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has met with executives from the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ahead of the Assin North by-election.
The meeting, held at Assin State College SHS, aimed to encourage conversation, understanding, and cooperation between political parties and the police force.
The IGP attempted to address any concerns or difficulties mentioned by the NDC and NPP executives in order to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.
During the meeting, both sides had the opportunity to express their points of view, present their expectations, and discuss important issues. The discussions included a wide range of themes, including security measures, electoral malpractice prevention, and the role of law enforcement in creating a conducive environment for fair elections.
The IGP emphasised the importance of neutrality, impartiality, and transparency in the electoral process. During the by-election, he reassured the NDC and NPP executives of the police force’s commitment to respecting the rule of law and defending the rights of all residents.
The gathering also allowed NDC and NPP executives to establish a culture of cooperation and understanding. They recognised the significance of peaceful cohabitation and collaboration for the benefit of Assin North.
Following a fruitful conversations, the IGP and political party executives stated their optimism in a successful by-election.
The Electoral Commission plans to hold a by-election in Assin North on Tuesday, June 27. The by-election was called after the court overturned James Gyakye Quayson’s election and ordered that his name be removed from the parliamentary records.
